Activate Joule in SAP IBP Without Confusing Conversational Access with Planning Authority
This tutorial provides a control-oriented way to introduce Joule into an SAP IBP environment while separating conversational assistance from planning authority.
1. Complete the technical prerequisites
Confirm the required platform, identity and administrative services and document the environments in scope.
2. Segment users and roles
Map planners, administrators, analysts and approvers to the capabilities they actually need. Do not treat access to the assistant as permission to change the plan.
3. Classify use cases
Separate information retrieval, explanation, recommendation and execution. Each class should have different permissions and validation expectations.
4. Test responses against planning context
Use representative planning questions and verify that the assistant's answers are consistent with source data, current planning rules and authorized context.
5. Define action boundaries
Specify which outputs are advisory, which require approval and which actions are prohibited without a planner or manager in the loop.
6. Monitor usage and exceptions
Review incorrect answers, misunderstood recommendations and attempted actions outside the intended scope.
Failure controls
- Capability-by-role matrix.
- Explicit distinction between advice and execution.
- Approval boundaries.
- Exception review.
