SAP acquires Prior Labs and commits more than €1 billion to tabular foundation models
SAP has completed its acquisition of Prior Labs and committed more than €1 billion over four years to research and product development around tabular foundation models. SAP plans to connect the technology with its AI, data-cloud and Joule environments, potentially bringing pretrained prediction capabilities directly to structured enterprise data used in Supply Chain planning.

The strategic signal is not another assistant interface; it is SAP’s attempt to create reusable models for the tables on which enterprise decisions actually depend. Value requires the models to work on company-specific histories, hierarchies and sparse operational data, and to connect predictions to an owned planning workflow. The main failure mode is strong benchmark performance that remains an isolated data-science component rather than improving a replenishment, capacity or allocation decision.
