Carrefour on ChatGPT shifts commerce readiness toward product data and fulfillment integration
Vincent Cotte argues that Carrefour's integration into ChatGPT is an early signal of a broader shift in digital commerce: product discovery and parts of the purchase journey are moving outside retailer websites and traditional search channels.
The operational consequence is not limited to marketing acquisition. Retailers need structured product data, accurate availability, pricing and promotion information, accessible interfaces and reliable fulfillment promises if AI assistants are to represent their offers correctly.
This changes the relationship between commerce and Supply Chain. A conversational channel can generate demand or recommend a product, but the experience only works when inventory, order orchestration and delivery commitments remain synchronized across the retailer's systems.
Dataleo perspective: agentic commerce turns product and inventory data into distribution infrastructure. The condition for value is a governed connection between the conversational interface and the systems that own price, stock and fulfillment. The main failure mode is channel expansion without execution readiness: an assistant can improve discovery while creating unavailable recommendations, inconsistent promises or orders that the operating network cannot fulfill profitably.
