AI pilot purgatory in supply chain: decision ownership is the scaling bottleneck

OMP's October 6 newsletter argues that the supply chain AI bottleneck is shifting from experimentation to decision velocity. Citing Zero100 blueprint data across 209 companies, it reports that 60% of AI use cases are still in pilot mode while only 1.7% have reached optimized, sustained value. The article frames continuous planning as a way to make decisions between fixed planning cycles, not as a replacement for S&OP: monthly S&OP and quarterly reviews still set direction, while signals, constraints and market changes should trigger faster operational decisions between those moments. The stronger operational point is ownership. OMP argues that companies scaling beyond pilots start from a business outcome, attach the pilot to a metric owned by a business leader, define governance guardrails before scaling, and use cross-functional teams that own the decision end to end. This is vendor-authored content and it ultimately positions OMP's Unison Planning architecture and UnisonIQ as the enabling technology. That commercial framing matters: the 60% and 1.7% figures come from Zero100 data cited by OMP, while the architectural prescription is OMP's interpretation of how to respond.
