Chipflation is becoming a cross-industry planning constraint
Today’s memory-market signal shows how AI data-centre investment is competing with consumer-electronics demand for common components. Apple and Micron illustrate how pricing power, pre-booked capacity and allocation can move downstream into product and margin decisions. Chinese industry reporting indicates that AI infrastructure is also changing demand for silicon wafers, DRAM, HBM, power-semiconductor materials and optical interconnect components. Scenario planning should therefore separate assumptions by component family and manufacturing stage, model supplier allocation and long-term reservation commitments, test product-margin and substitution scenarios, and monitor whether capacity shifts toward AI infrastructure at the expense of automotive and consumer products.
