The inventory-planning platform is not the operating model
Technology can replace spreadsheets without replacing weak ownership, hidden parameters or fragmented decision rights.
Moving from spreadsheets or basic ERP to a specialist inventory-planning platform can improve forecasting and replenishment. It does not automatically create a better planning operating model.
Technology does not assign ownership
A new platform can calculate safety stock, reorder points and replenishment proposals. It cannot decide who owns service levels, lead times, segmentation rules or override policies unless the organization defines that explicitly.
The migration risk
Companies often transfer formulas and settings from Excel into a new system without documenting their origin, effective date or business owner. The logic becomes harder to see but no more governed.
What should remain lightweight
Scenario exploration, parameter testing and controlled prototyping can remain in a lightweight analytical layer.
What must be integrated
Authoritative inventory parameters, active plan versions, approval rules and ERP integration belong in a governed Inventory Planning architecture.
The platform is an enabler. The operating model is the combination of ownership, cadence, controls and decision rights around it.
