BARC survey shows a wide gap between agentic-AI potential and current planning impact

BARC’s survey, presented by Board, shows a wide gap between interest in agentic AI and its current impact on corporate planning. While 98% of organizations see potential and 83% are investing to improve efficiency and productivity, only 10% report a significant impact on planning today.

Adoption starts with bounded use cases

The leading applications are analytical rather than fully autonomous: anomaly and risk detection, scenario analysis, use of external data, data preparation, forecasting and re-forecasting, and reporting. The survey also finds that 54% of respondents are comfortable with AI operating within defined boundaries while a human remains in control.

The data and integration gap remains central

More than half of respondents say improving the data foundation is more urgent than adopting AI, and better integration with existing systems is identified as the most important external lever for value. The findings point toward focused pilots, measurable outcomes and human oversight as the practical route from experimentation to broader planning use.
