Logistics buyers expect AI to improve visibility and decisions before autonomy

A Maersk customer survey points to visibility, analytics and execution support as more immediate priorities than autonomous logistics.

A Maersk customer survey indicates that logistics buyers place greater priority on end-to-end visibility, analytics and decision support, and shipment execution than on more autonomous AI claims. Only a small share of respondents classified their own logistics AI capability as advanced.

The market signal is that customers first want AI to reduce operational uncertainty and improve exception decisions. Value depends on embedded operational data, workflow integration and measurable service outcomes rather than the sophistication of the interface alone.

The evidence has an important limitation: 95 customers responded overall, but only 39 answered the two displayed questions. The percentages should therefore be treated as directional rather than representative of the wider logistics market.
