A 2027 AOP is only executable if S&OP can translate it into monthly operating decisions

The useful signal in Brian Cromer's argument is not that finance and operations should collaborate more closely. It is that the annual operating plan needs to be expressed at the same decision grain that S&OP actually manages.

That means translating revenue targets into product-family volume and mix by facility and quarter, validating those assumptions against line, labor, facility and supplier capacity, and deriving working-capital requirements from the inventory profile implied by the demand and supply plan rather than from a simple revenue ratio.

The second requirement is a closed monthly loop. Current demand, supply, inventory, margin and service projections should be compared with the AOP, and material deviations should trigger a leadership decision rather than an operational workaround.

The article is authored by Brian Cromer, Managing Director of TBM Consulting's Global Supply Chain Practice. It should therefore be read as an attributed operating framework, not as independent evidence that a particular consulting method guarantees the stated outcomes.
