Alain Matar
Alain Matar is a supply-chain practitioner and planning-system builder whose work covers Integrated Business Planning, demand and supply planning, inventory optimization, logistics and the practical use of AI coding tools in planning workflows.
He works as a supply-chain manager at Messer Americas and has held operational and logistics roles across industrial, retail and consulting environments. His public work focuses on translating planning discipline into usable applications, including exception management, forecast-model selection, inventory visibility, executive review packs and planner workbenches.
Matar holds a master’s degree in supply-chain management from the Schulich School of Business and the ASCM Certified Supply Chain Professional credential. His recent work examines how practitioners can use Claude and other AI development tools to prototype planning applications while maintaining appropriate controls around security, integration, testing and accountability.
Matar’s work is relevant to the gap between enterprise planning platforms and the spreadsheets or manual workflows that planners still use to make daily decisions. His examples show how domain experts can rapidly prototype supply-chain planning tools when they can clearly define the process, calculations, exceptions and outputs.
The main governance question is not whether a browser-based tool can calculate a forecast or inventory recommendation, but whether its logic can be tested, versioned, explained and maintained. Production use requires clear ownership, role-based access, audit trails, reconciled master data, exception handling, manual overrides and defined interfaces with ERP, WMS, TMS or APS systems.
His emphasis on planning discipline is equally important: software cannot create alignment between Sales, Operations and Finance, assign decision owners or make executives commit to corrective actions. Lightweight applications can accelerate a mature process, but they can also amplify weak data and unclear accountability.
