EVENT: Algo webinar examines when supply chains should use forecast-driven push versus demand-driven pull

The webinar, "Mining for Gold at the Intersection of Push and Pull - How to Run Forecast-Driven Push and Demand-Driven Pull Together, Each for the Job It Does Best," is scheduled for Thursday, October 15, 2026 at 11:00 AM ET. It is aimed at Supply Chain, planning, materials and S&OP leaders at manufacturers and distributors under pressure to improve forecast accuracy and service levels while reducing inventory cost. The central question is not whether organizations should choose forecasting or demand-driven replenishment universally, but which decisions each method should control. The session examines when planners should override the forecast, where consumption should become the operational signal, and how applying one planning logic indiscriminately can create both excess stock and shortages.

The important design choice is not whether the forecast is accurate enough; it is which decisions are allowed to consume it. Forecast-driven push and demand-driven pull solve different problems. Forecasts remain useful where the business must commit before demand materializes—capacity, scenarios, aggregate resource decisions and some long-lead purchases—while replenishment decisions can become unstable when every forecast revision is converted directly into an order signal. The condition for value is an explicit decision boundary between forecast-led and consumption-led planning. The failure mode is replacing one universal rule with another: applying pull where advance commitments are unavoidable is just as problematic as using volatile forecasts to micromanage every replenishment decision.
